The race for the 48th Assembly District is heating up, and someone’s got some ‘splainin’ to do….
A few years ago I worked hard for Vicky Selkowe in her aldermanic race against the very conservative Larry Palm. Now she touts his endorsement.
But that is minor compared to her other lurch rightward.
During the recent county executive race she endorsed Zach Brandon.
Zach.
Brandon.
This was no random endorsement. She was also on his campaign committee. Brandon you might recall, was one of the most conservative members of the Madison Common Council.
Selkowe’s Brandon endorsement is indefensible, and here’s why.
Brandon has long been a proud Democratic Leadership Council member: “I am a member of the Democratic Leadership Council, is that OK?” (In response to a Republican inquiry in which they understandably thought he was one of theirs!)
His DLC credentials define Brandon. You’ll even find those credentials here (note that the DLC has subsequently taken down their membership list given that it said membership has become an albatross around the neck of many a Dem). He has never renounced those ties. That disgusting Republican trojan horse, you might recall, was established with Koch bros. cash (More on Koch bros. funding of DLC; Thomas Frank even wrote about it in his 2004 book, What’s the Matter with Kansas; yet more here.)
The DLC is the organization that brought you NAFTA, WTO, welfare “reform,” school vouchers and other neo-con ideas brought to the fore by conservative Democrats.
And we know what Koch ca$h hath wrought in the state of Wisconsin….
Brandon is very beautiful though. Paul Ryan writ small.
So I suppose one shouldn’t personally fault Selkowe for falling in love with him. But politically, by cozying up to a shameless Koch disciple, well, sorry folks, she is no friend of the teachers and other public servants she professes to defend.
Furthermore, she has cozied up with the likes of other rightists such as Mark Clear (another very conservative city council member who was always in league with Brandon in trashing anything & everything that made Madison not Peoria) and the Madison Professional Police Association (the organization that led a nasty campaign against a fearless progressive, Brenda Konkel, in 2009).
Folks, it is time to start connecting the dots: Scott Walker <–> Koch Brother$ -> DLC Dems -> Brandon -> Selkowe.
Way, wayyy too close for comfort.
