Company History

UrbanThoreau’s president, Michael D. Barrett is a regionally recognized expert in livable communities and sustainable transportation. He is currently a council member of the Schenk-Atwood-Starkweather-Yahara Neighborhood Association and chairs the transportation committee. With an M.S. in Geography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Michael’s broad, insightful perspectives are welcomed at the Schenk-Atwood Business Improvement District where he serves as a neighborhood representative. He was a key mayoral appointee to the Schenk-Atwood-Starkweather-Worthington Park Plan (2000) Committee and County Executive appointee to the Dane County Bicycle Transportation Plan (2000) .

Michael’s critical perspectives on current national and local transportation policies were roundly applauded at his presentation - The Citizen Bicyclist - at the 2002 National Bicycle Education Leaders Conference.
